Yes, he did.

The song is called L'Eté indien and it first appeared on a single of the same name in June 1975.

There also exist English, German, Spanish and Italian versions of L'Eté indien. Smile

Hi there,
I've managed to pick this title up however although the music is the same the lyrics are completely different from Cotugno's "africa". Does anyone know if Dassin did a version with the original "africa' lyrics?
Thanks in advance.

I doubt he did. As far as I know, the lyrics of all songs were re-written to suit his voice and his manner of singing. And music as well (if you listen closely, you will undoubtedly hear that notwithstanding being sometimes close, as is the case of this song, they're still different).
